On the Books: Dr. Seuss is getting a museum in his hometown

After launching a $1.25 million project to aid public school libraries, James Patterson is sweetening the pot with an additional $250,000. The Scholastic Reading Club, co-sponsor on the project, will match each dollar contributed by Patterson with points for teachers to use for classroom materials. Patterson previously donated more than $1 million to indie booksellers throughout the country.

Prepare to immerse yourself in the fantastical world of Dr. Seuss. The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum, honoring author Theodor Seuss Geisel, will open its doors in Springfield, Mass., in June 2016. Visitors will experience “a series of environments that replicate scenes from Dr. Seuss’s imagination and encounter life-sized three-dimensional characters and places from the books.

Fans took to social media on Monday to mourn the death of Chinua Achebe, who passed away March 21 at the age of 82. Former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Susan Rice tweeted, “Today is a somber day in Nigeria, as Chinua Achebe was laid to rest in his native village.” However, the Things Fall Apart author died in 2013. Hey, it’s the thought that counts
