Game Rewind | Louisville rallies past Duke

Damion Lee scored 24 points as Louisville rallied from 13 points down in the second half to beat Duke 71-64 before a noisy crowd at the KFC Yum! Center. Read back over updates of the game as they occurred.

Final, Louisville 71-64: Great effort and great atmosphere for Louisville after trailing by 12 in the second half. 24 for Damion Lee

:21.3, second half, Louisville 71-64: Ingram slips and Kennard ends up missing a three. Lee makes 1/2 FT. Ingram, Plumlee miss, and Onuaku clears it and is fouled. Cards gonna win. What a great atmosphere at the Yum!. Fans going nuts for a team that doesn't really have much to play for.

:41.5, second half, Louisville 70-64: Lee makes both FTs, Thornton barely misses a contested shot in the lane, and Johnson gets the board and is fouled. He makes both FTs. Cards looking good.

1:03, second half, Louisville 66-64: After Lee is called for a charge, Jeter scores out of the timeout and Snider misses a three as the shot-clock runs down. Thornton comes back down and nails a 15-footer. Very tough kid. Lee fouled on the drive.

3:55, second half, Louisville 66-59: After Lewis missed both technicals after Coach K's T, Lee makes only 1/2 FTs after Allen's T. Missed chances for Cards.

3:55, second half, Louisville 65-59: Whoa. Huge turn of events as Allen drives to the goal on the right baseline, runs into traffic and kicks it out and is called for a charge, which fouls him out. He's then T'd up - meaning he gets six fouls in the official book. He had 29 points today, was Duke's only capable point guard left. I really am not sure how Duke finishes the game. I guess Kennard will play point, and they'll use somebody here.

5:04, second half, Louisville 61-57: KFC Yum! Center as loud as I've ever heard it as Lee hits a go-ahead three after an offensive rebound, then Adel gets a steal that leads to a Johnson dunk. Then two FTs by Allen but ANOTHER three by Lee, and ANOTHER Duke turnover vs. the press. Blue Devils are flustered and probably really tired. This place is going nuts. And now they T up Coach K. Duke in big trouble.

7:52, second half, Duke 54-50: Deng Adel, who started today, is having a really active game. He leads the Cards with 12 points (5/6) and also has 4 rebounds, a steal and an assist.

9:05, second half, Duke 54-49: Derrick Thornton turns it over driving across the lane and appears to hurt his shoulder really badly. Louisville had a 5-on-4 for an entire possession as Thornton held his arm in pain at the other end but couldn't convert. Allen now running the point, and Kennard back in with four fouls. Duke's depth and conditioning will be really tested here because they have basically no subs is Thornton can't play.

9:39, second half, Duke 54-49: Great spurt by the Cards, who are on an 8-2 run, capped by an Onuaku basket, then an Adel steal with Onuaku throwing a great hit-ahead pass to a wide-open Lewis for a layup. Duke calls timeout.

11:38, second half, Duke 50-41: Folks on Twitter who have the benefit of replay say that Allen and Johnson appeared to exchange some elbows in the melee for the loose ball. Crazy stat for today - super freshman Brandon Ingram has 8 turnovers today. Louisville is trapping him heavily every time he gets it, and he's not handling it well and throwing it all over the place.

11:49, second half, Duke 50-41: Refs give a technical to Jaylen Johnson and nothing to Allen. Allen makes 1/2 technical FTs while getting heavy boos. In real time, I thought it was more significant than that. I don't think Pitino was pleased at all with Johnson. Meanwhile, Plumlee scores for a 12-point lead, but Adel answers with a 3.

13:11, second half, Duke 47-37: Kennard sits with his fourth foul. Jaylen Johnson and Grayson Allen fight for a loose ball, and I think they exchanged some punches in the pile. Whoa. Refs going to the monitors to check it out. I won't be surprised if we see some ejections.

14:57, second half, Duke 44-35: Duke starts the second half strong, including getting a three from Kennard (Duke's seventh) to go up by 11. But Lee makes a steal after Brandon Ingram is trapped and makes a poor pass out to the perimeter. Lee goes all the way, making a great spin move at the rim for a layup.

Halftime, Duke 37-29: Grayson Allen is killing the Cards. Duke swings it around on the last possession of the half, then finds him open for a deep three. He has 19 points, including four threes.

2:00, first half, Duke 32-29: Kennard, who's starting today while Matt Jones is hurt, picks up his third foul. Duke only has about six guys available today, and if Kennard is on the bench, that's more trouble. Jeter in for him.

3:28, first half, Duke 31-26: Grayson Allen and the Blue Devils are on first. Duke has already hit six threes, and Allen, who is 3/4 from deep, has 13 points, following a coast-to-coast driving layup while being fouled right before the timeout. He'll have an FT when play starts back. Onuaku had 8 points and 5 rbs for Louisville, which is 12/21. Spalding has 7 pts and 3 rbs

7:49, first half, Tied 22-22: Spalding showing some impressive skill. After making the three, he also hit a turnaround jumper in the post, got a dunk off a nice dish in the lane from Mitchell, then stuffed Ingram as he went up on the block. Spalding has 7 points (3/3 and 3 rebounds).

Lee with a Euro step dribble floater to get Louisville up by three, but Grayson Allen, who is so tough, nails a three in the left corner to tie it at 22 at the under-8 timeout.

11:40, first half, Duke 16-14: Ray Spalding shows his shooting touch with his first career three (on his second career attempt), then Louisville forces a turnover right after the inbound and will have possession after the timeout. U of L is 6/9 to start, but Duke has hit one more three than the Cards

15:48, first half, Louisville 7-6: Stud freshman Brandon Ingram hits a couple threes for Duke, but the Cards are sparked by a Onuaku block on Ingram's attempted dunk that U of L takes the other way and ends up with a Snider three. Exciting atmosphere to start.

Pregame: Louisville is expected to wear white throw-back uniforms in the spirit of the 1986 NCAA championship team, which will be honored on Saturday. Those Cards beat Duke in the national title game.

U of L (20-6, 9-4 ACC) and Duke (20-6, 9-4) - along with Notre Dame - are tied for fourth place in the ACC standings, one game behind co-leaders North Carolina and Miami and a half-game behind Virginia, so this is a huge game if the Cards hope to stay alive for the ACC regular-season title, which is the only real prize they have to play for at this point.
