Kings Fall In Double-OT Heartbreaker



Despite a career-best 56-point outing from DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento fell in double overtime, 129-128.

A first half that the Kings dominated netted Sacramento a double-digit advantage going into the halftime break, 56-46.

While holding the Hornets to just 32 percent shooting, Sactown shot at a 56 percent clip, led by Rudy Gay andDeMarcus Cousins’ combined 33 first half points.

Charlotte stormed back in the second half, largely due to their 13 second half three-pointers. With 3:28 remaining, the home team trail by a margin of eight, 107-99, but an impressive late run propelled the purple and black into the lead in the final seconds of regulation, eventually leading to a 115-115 tie heading to overtime.

The overtime period started in impressive fashion, as Boogie finished a monster and-one alley-oop to increase his point total to a career-high 50. Meanwhile,Willie Cauley-Stein denied Kemba Walker on a game-winning layup attempt with 1.1 seconds remaining in OT. Neither team converted, leading to a second overtime.

As the team held an early three-point lead in the second overtime, No. 15 was called for his sixth and final personal foul on a putback attempt to extend the lead to five.

Cauley-Stein scored the only field goal for the squad in the final overtime on a dunk that gave the Kings a 128-126 advantage with 11.9 seconds remaining. Hornets’ Troy Daniels sank the game-winning basket on the ensuing possession, marking his eighth three-pointer of the night and giving Charlotte a 129-128 victory.
DMC set a new Sacramento-era and Sleep Train Arena record with a career-high 56 points. The 56-point, 12-rebound performance was Cousins’ 26th double-double of the season and 11th straight.
The All-Star big man had his 2nd straight 40-point game, tying Chris Webber (2000-01) for consecutive 40-point games in the Sacramento-era.
Cousins’ 48 points set a new career-high and matched Kevin Martin for the most points in a regulation game in Sacramento-era history.
Rajon Rondo dished out 20 assists for the 2nd time this season, matching his Sacramento-era record for assists in a game.
Rondo’s 20 assists marked the 30th game of the season with No. 9 having 10 or more assists, tying Reggie Theus for the second most double-digit assist games in Sacramento-era history.

The Kings now head on a three-game road trip, starting Tuesday versus the Portland Trail Blazers. Fans wishing to view the game can tune in via CSN California or KHTK SPORTS 1140 AM.
