Tonight we will likely see periods of freezing rain and sleet in the Triangle. We may see a few breaks in the precipitation, but the storm is far from over. Low temperatures will drop to the upper 20s and lower 30s. That means trouble for roads. Any areas that melted will likely refreeze creating hazardous driving conditions for Saturday morning.
We will also run the risk of more power outages as more ice develops on power lines and trees. It's a good idea to get all of your mobile devices charged now, just in case your power goes out.
Tomorrow, we will likely see a few light snow showers as the system finally moves out and away. Most models indicate we will likely only 1-3 inches of snow before the storm comes to an end. The highest snow totals will be for our northern counties, near the Virginia border.
Drier air will bring an end to the precipitation by late on Saturday. This drier flow of air will bring a break up in the clouds Saturday night and sunshine on Sunday with temperatures near 40.
A gradual warmup will take afternoon temperatures into the 40s on Monday ahead of another cold front. This front will move through on Tuesday with clouds and little rain, not snow.
