Ex-'Bachelor' contestant, Lex McAllister, dies from apparent suicide

Lex McAllister, a contestant on Jake Pavelka's season of The Bachelor, died Tuesday of an apparent suicide by drug overdose in Columbus, Ohio, police there said. She was 31.

Denise Alex-Bouzounis, a spokesperson for the Columbus Division of Police, confirmed the death. She said police received a 911 call regarding McAllister at 2 p.m. on Saturday and arrived at her home to find her with empty prescription pill bottles.

She was taken to a hospital but her body began to shut down. At 2:39 a.m. on Tuesday, McAllister was removed from life support.

E! News reported that McAllister had texted an unidentified friend to say she wanted to end her life, and the friend called 911 after rushing to her home to check on her.

A financial planner and wealth manager, McAllister's Instagram page contains many happy pictures of her with friends and family, and no indication she was suicidal.

McAllister, who was 25 in 2010 during the 14th season of the popular ABC romance reality show, was eliminated on the first episode with Pavelka, a pilot (thus the subtitle On the Wings of Love).

She is not the first contestant from Season 14 to commit suicide. In 2013, model Gia Allemand died of a "critical loss of brain and organ function" two days after hanging herself with a vacuum cleaner cord from a staircase in her home in New Orleans.

Tenley Molzahn, the runner-up during Pavelka's season, shared a post for those thinking about suicide on Facebook. She did not mention McAllister's name but had this to say:

"So sad to have learned about another life lost today. Remembering her vibrance & beauty."

The winner during McAllister's season, Vienna Girardi, expressed her sympathy. "My heart goes out to Lex's family during this difficult time. I remember her being such a positive young lady who could light up any room," she told E! News.
